A student at a private medical college in Durgapur was gang-raped, raising questions about women’s safety in Bengal. According to reports, a medical college student from Odisha was allegedly raped by unidentified men in West Bardhaman district.
The incident occurred Friday night near the private medical college campus in Durgapur. The second-year student reportedly went out to dinner with a friend.
The student was raped in the dark of night in a secluded area near the college. A police officer stated that the medical student, a resident of Jaleswar, Odisha, is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. He added that an investigation has been initiated based on a complaint filed by the medical student’s family members.
Police investigating every possible angle
Speaking to reporters, the student’s parents said they arrived in Durgapur this morning after receiving a call from their daughter’s friends. The student’s father said, “We received a call from her friends and they informed us about the incident.
We came here this morning and filed a police complaint. Currently, the police are investigating every possible angle. Investigating officers are collecting all evidence and recording witness statements. No arrests have been made in the case so far.”
